Provincial circuits
Québec Cup
The Québec Cup is the highest level of provincial competition. It usually runs from December to early April. The circuit is aimed at athletes in the U16 and up categories who are developing towards excellence. Some events on the circuit serve as selection criteria for higher-level competitions. Local organizing committees often offer races for U14 and younger athletes. These races are considered to be the regional component of the Québec Cup.
Marathons (loppets)
A loppet is a cross-country ski marathon open to all, where skiers of all levels can participate over different distances. This type of event is as much a celebration of cross-country skiing as it is an athletic challenge, often with no winners or losers, placing greater emphasis on endurance and camaraderie.
In Québec, the Gatineau Loppet is the most popular ski marathon and the only one in Canada recognized on the World Loppet circuit. At its 46th edition in 2024, it brought together 2,348 participants from 19 countries, confirming its status as the largest international cross-country ski gathering in the country. Ski de fond Québec has identified 38 loppets in the province, 20 of which are still active. SFQ hopes to promote this network and encourage their revitalization, with the goal being a unique Québec circuit that could attract a wide audience and contribute to the democratization of cross-country skiing.
