Subsidies for sporting events

Support program for sporting events (PSES)

The Support program for sporting events (Programme de soutien aux événements sportifs, PSES) aims to support the organization of Canadian-level sporting events in Quebec, in line with the development plan for excellence of Quebec sports federations, or organizing committees for events aimed at the general public. Ski de fond Québec encourages organizing committees to find out about the conditions before submitting a request. All funding requests must be approved by Ski de fond Québec and can only be submitted by a Québec sports federation recognized by the Ministry of Education.

Support program for international sporting events (PSÉSI)

The Support program for international sporting events (Programme de soutien aux événements sportifs internationaux PSÉSI) can be used to finance the organization and staging of World Championships, World Cups, Pan American championships, tournaments bringing together the world’s elite, and the bidding process for international sporting events. Five million dollars are allocated to PSÉSI every year. This sum is used to improve Quebec’s chances of attracting major sporting events. Funding applications must be submitted by a Quebec sports federation recognized by the Ministry.

The Financial Assistance Program for Local and Regional Physical and Outdoor Activity Initiatives (PAFILR)

The Financial Assistance Program for Local and Regional Physical and Outdoor Activity Initiatives (Programme d’aide financière aux initiatives locales et régionales en matière d’activité physique et de plein air, PAFILR) provides financial support to regional organizations for projects promoting regular physical and outdoor activity. Financial assistance is granted to regional recreation and sports units (Unités régionales de loisir et de sport, URLS) for redistribution to various local and regional organizations. Consult the URLS in your region to submit your application or for more information.

Licences

To participate in federation-sanctioned events, you must have one of the following two licenses:

  • an annual provincial license
  • a day license for an event

The license (annual or daily) is mandatory to insure civil liability coverage of the organizers and participants.

Annual provincial license

  • Available from SFQ in June of each year. It is valid from June 1 to May 31 of the following year.
  • The costs vary according to age category and whether or not you belong to a club.
  • Racers with an annual provincial license may participate without restriction in all regional and provincial events in Quebec.
  • Racers under the age of 18 must be members of a club to obtain an annual SFQ license.

NOTE: If the event is sanctioned at the Canadian level, the Canadian license (annual or daily) is also compulsory. It is not possible to purchase annual licenses (provincial or national) on the day of the event.

Day license for events

  • Useful for skiers who take part in few races or who would like to try out competition.
  • It is mandatory for all racers without an annual license.
  • It is available from race organizers on the day of the event or when registering online, and is valid for one day only.
  • The cost of the day license is non-refundable and is not deducted from the purchase of the annual license.
